Why I built Appbricx with BYOK instead of charging per generation

Opaque per-generation markups punish power users. Here's why Appbricx lets you bring your own AI key — and how credits still work for the platform.

The problem with per-generation pricing

Most AI builders meter you in opaque “generations.” You never quite know whether a long refactor costs the same as a one-line tweak, or how much margin sits between the model API and your invoice. Power users hit a wall: the more you build, the more you subsidize someone else’s markup.

I didn’t want Appbricx to be another black box. If you already have an Anthropic or OpenAI account, you should be able to use it.

What BYOK means here

Bring your own key (BYOK) means you connect your provider API key in AI settings. Model tokens bill your provider at their rates. Appbricx does not markup BYOK tokens. Keys stay server-side — the browser never sees them.

Credits still exist — and that’s honest

Running an app builder isn’t free even when the model bill goes to your provider. Orchestration, sandboxes, previews, and the runtime cost real money. So BYOK still consumes platform credits for that work — just not an invented “per generation” tax on every token.

Free includes a small daily credit pool so you can evaluate. Pro and Business unlock larger pools. Pricing is public HTML, not buried behind a login wall.

Why this fits a full-stack builder

Appbricx isn’t a UI sketch tool. The first prompt generates database, auth, RLS, workflows, and a live URL. That stack is the product. AI is the accelerator — and accelerators should be priced transparently.
